The speed of PROFINET depends on the communication mode it uses:
PROFINET RT (Real-time Communication)
Typically uses a transmission rate of 100 Mbps. PROFINET RT is mainly used for application scenarios that require fast data exchange but do not have particularly strict requirements on latency.
PROFINET IRT (High Real-time Communication)
Also uses a transmission rate of 100 Mbps, but through special synchronization mechanisms, the communication cycle can be shortened to sub-milliseconds, thus achieving deterministic transmission. PROFINET IRT is suitable for applications with very high requirements on latency and synchronization, such as motion control and high-precision automation systems.
PROFINET over Gigabit Ethernet
In some advanced applications, PROFINET can achieve higher transmission rates through Gigabit Ethernet to meet the needs of larger bandwidth and faster communication speeds.
In general, the typical transmission rate of PROFINET is 100 Mbps, but higher speeds can also be achieved through Gigabit Ethernet in some special applications.
