Is RS232 obsolete?
Eventually, serial ports were improved to allow for more efficiency. Even so, RS-232 ports continued to be used in personal computers until the late 1990s, when other standards, like USB, began to replace them. That doesn't mean the RS-232 serial cable has become obsolete.
