What is the difference between RJ45 and Ethernet cable?

RJ-45 (Registered Jack) is the plug into which you insert your Ethernet cable. It is not "ethernet" per se. Ethernet is a protocol that is used to send signals over the LAN. The signal is carried by ethernet cables connected to RJ-45 connectors; connectors that are on most laptops and servers.
