Unlike a conventional same-pin-count gender changer, it addresses both connector-gender mismatch and the physical transition between 25-position and 9-position D-Sub interfaces. The female-to-female configuration defines mechanical connectivity only and does not establish the internal signal mapping. In common RS-232 implementations, DB25 and DB9 pin positions are not numerically identical; for example, DB25 Pin 2 commonly corresponds to DB9 Pin 3.
