RJ12 is a 6P6C wiring standard
1. Each RJ12 connector contains six metal pins, each connected to one of the six smaller wires inside the main cable
2. There are two different pin-outs (wiring schemes) for RJ12, straight and reverse. Straight pin-outs are used to send data (like a fax machine), while reverse pin-outs are used to send voice communications (like phone calls) 2.
