The two are essentially different stages of the same technology. HS Link, the predecessor to CameraLink HS, was developed by Teledyne DALSA to address bandwidth and distance limitations in high-resolution image transmission. Here are the detailed differences between the two:
1. The Origin of HS Link
HS Link is an interface developed by Teledyne DALSA for specific customer needs to increase data transfer speed and resolution while maintaining the ease of use and reliability of CameraLink. It uses a design framework based on CameraLink, but with significant optimizations for bandwidth, data integrity and transmission distance.
2. From HS Link to CameraLink HS
After development was completed, DALSA submitted HS Link to the Automated Imaging Association (AIA) with the hope of adopting it as the next generation industrial vision interface standard. After discussion and adoption of some improvements through the AIA's industry committees, HS Link was named CameraLink HS and became the official industry standard.
3. CameraLink HS Applications
CameraLink HS offers higher throughput, more reliable data transfer and more flexible cabling options. It is widely used in semiconductor manufacturing, LCD inspection, medical imaging and other applications that require high bandwidth and low latency.
