The newly developed Premier Cable PCM-KW-689 is a DB25 Male to DB9Male D-Sub serial adapter designed for systems where both existing matinginterfaces are female. It combines DB25-to-DB9 format adaptation and a male-to-male connector arrangement in one compact component for serial patchpanels, industrial control cabinets, communication racks, production testfixtures, industrial PCs and legacy serial equipment.

Compared with stackingmultiple gender changers, it can reduce intermediate mating points andsimplify service configuration. PCM-KW-689 is a passive adapter and does notperform protocol, voltage-level or data conversion. The complete pinassignment, DTE/DCE role and straight-through or crossover requirement mustbe verified before use.

Core Advantage: Male-to-Male Bridge for Female-Ended Equipment

PCM-KW-689 features a DB25 Male to DB9 Male configuration for connecting equipment with DB25 female and DB9 female ports. Unlike PCM-KW-688, which has a DB9 female end, it addresses a distinct mating requirement. It is suitable for patch systems, racks and test fixtures, provided connector compatibility and pinout are verified.

Stable Connection: Retention and Load Control on Both Male Interfaces

Installation should verify both female ports, retention hardware and shell clearance. Keep the connectors properly aligned and avoid forced mating that could bend pins or stress the housings. The adapter should not support equipment weight or be subjected to external pulling, helping reduce intermittent contact and mechanical damage.

Compatibility Notice

PCM-KW-689 provides physical D-Sub interface adaptation. Verify the complete pinout, communication standard and DTE/DCE requirements before installation. For RS-232 applications, also confirm whether the equipment requires straight-through or null-modem wiring.

Product Features

DB25 Male + DB9 Male Dual-Male Design

PCM-KW-689 features DB25 Male and DB9 Male connectors, designed for equipment, patch panels and test interfaces with female ports on both sides.

Integrated DB25-to-DB9 Format Adaptation

The adapter integrates a 25-position to 9-position D-Sub transition, unlike a same-pin-count gender changer. Internal wiring must follow the required signal functions.

Compact Serial Patch Adapter Construction

The compact cable-free design suits serial patch panels, communication racks and test fixtures, reducing unnecessary cable loops while maintaining a tidy connection area.

Passive Signal-Routing Design

PCM-KW-689 passively routes signals according to the specified pin mapping. It does not provide protocol, voltage-level or baud-rate conversion, USB conversion or signal isolation.

Core Application Scenarios

Serial Patch Panels

Serial patch panels in test centers, service facilities and equipment rooms often use female D-Sub interfaces to centralize serial connections.

When the two interfaces use DB25 Female and DB9 Female respectively, PCM-KW-689 can serve as a short male-to-male D-Sub bridge.

This can reduce the need for additional short cables and stacked gender adapters.

Industrial Computers

Some industrial PCs, legacy serial cards and industrial servers continue to provide DB9 Female interfaces, while peripheral controllers or patch ports may use DB25 Female.

When the actual pinout is compatible, PCM-KW-689 can serve as an interface bridge for maintenance, system integration, equipment retrofit and serial diagnostics.

Production Test Fixtures

Production test fixtures, burn-in stations and functional test benches often require rapid connection to a DUT or test instrument.

When the tester and fixture use DB25 Female and DB9 Female interfaces respectively, PCM-KW-689 can form part of a fixed interface-conversion module.

For production testing, the pin mapping and revision should be controlled to prevent different wiring versions from being mixed.

Core Performance Advantages

01

Improves System Adaptation Efficiency

PCM-KW-689 combines DB25-to-DB9 format adaptation and dual-female port mating in one adapter, reducing additional accessories and selection steps for industrial equipment and test systems with defined interface requirements.

02

Reduces Mechanical Stack-Up and Service Complexity

The compact single-piece design reduces unnecessary adapter length, mating points and mechanical leverage, helping limit looseness and impact risks while simplifying maintenance around racks, panels and test fixtures.

03

Supports Standardization and OEM Customization

Project-specific wiring can support three-wire serial, hardware handshaking, null-modem or OEM pinouts. Separate part numbers, labels, drawings and revision control help prevent spare-part mix-ups and improve service traceability.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1:Why Can't Two Female Devices Always Use a Standard Cable?

A1:The issue is not only cable length but also connector gender and pin mapping. If both devices provide female D-Sub ports, a female-ended cable cannot mate directly.Even when a male-ended cable is used, the internal wiring must still match the equipment requirements.

Q2:Can It Be Used for RS-422 or RS-485?

A2:Use for RS-422 or RS-485 should only be evaluated when the equipment pin assignment exactly matches the internal PCM-KW-689 mapping.

There is no single universal DB9 or DB25 pinout for all RS-422/RS-485 equipment.

Q3:Can It Convert a Parallel Port to Serial?

A3:No.PCM-KW-689 is a passive adapter. If the DB25 interface is actually an LPT parallel port, an active converter is required to convert it to serial communication.
