How to wire a Profibus cable to a Profibus connector

 

 

When wiring a PROFIBUS cable to a PROFIBUS connector, you need to follow the correct wiring standards and steps. Here are the general wiring steps:

 

1. Prepare the cable and connector

 

Make sure to use a cable that meets the PROFIBUS standard, for example, a shielded twisted pair cable that meets the ISO 11801 standard.

Prepare a connector suitable for PROFIBUS, such as an M12 connector or a DE-9 connector.

 

2. Strip the cable insulation

 

According to the specifications of the connector, strip the outer sheath of the cable, usually 5-10 cm in length.
Then strip the insulation of each twisted pair, making sure that the terminal block is not damaged.

 

3. Wiring to the connector

 

  • For an M12 connector, there are usually 4 or 5 pins. According to the pin definition of the connector, connect the signal wire and shield wire of the cable to the corresponding pins. The common pin definitions of M12 connectors are as follows:

 

Pin 1: V+ (positive power supply)
Pin 2: B line (reverse signal)
Pin 3: A line (forward signal)
Pin 4: GND (ground)
Pin 5: (Some connectors may have this pin for additional functions)

 

  • For DE-9 connectors (also known as DB9 connectors), connect the cable according to the standard wiring diagram of PROFIBUS. In general:

 

Pin 1: A line (forward signal)
Pin 2: B line (reverse signal)
Pin 3: shield line (usually grounded)
Pin 4: (unused)
Pin 5: (unused)
Pin 6: (unused)
Pin 7: (unused)
Pin 8: (unused)
Pin 9: (unused)

 

4. Fix the cable

 

Fix the cable in the appropriate position of the connector to ensure that the cable is not easy to fall off or generate stress.
Some connectors are designed with cable clamps or fixing screws to secure the cable.

 

5. Check the connection

 

Make sure all connections are correct and secure.

Check whether the cable wiring is consistent with the connector pin definition.

 

6. Test

 

After completing the wiring, connect to the PROFIBUS network, start the device and test whether the communication is normal.

Correct wiring can ensure the stability and reliability of the PROFIBUS network.
