Types of Audio Cables

The wires used to transmit the audio signals generated by the audio source (signal source) are collectively referred to as audio cables.

It can be roughly divided into 3 categories: microphone cables (wires connecting microphones and other equipment), audio signal cables, audio cables (wires connecting power amplifiers and speakers), special cables for musical instruments and coaxial cables.

Audio signals are mainly divided into analog signals and digital signals. The cables used to transmit analog signals include analog audio signal lines, and the cables used to transmit digital signals include digital audio signal lines, network cables, and optical fibers.

Microphone cables, audio signal cables and coaxial cables transmit low-power, low-current signals with high impedance and are easily interfered. Therefore, in order to match the impedance, such lines are generally relatively thin (the resistance will be correspondingly larger); at the same time, a shielding layer needs to be set to avoid the interference of external signals.

The audio line mainly transmits high-power and high-current signals, so the audio line is required to have excellent electrical conductivity, that is, the resistance is small enough.
