The connector is the same, the difference is that RJ11 has 4 connected wires inside and RJ12 has 6 connected wires.
RJ11 and RJ12 jacks are keystone jacks used as connectors in creating LANs in homes and offices, setting up phone networks, and so on. Given the many electronic devices such as computers that are data-hungry, there is a need for these jacks to connect telecommunications ports to devices.
RJ11 utilizes only four slots out of 6, whereas RJ12 utilizes all six slots. However, RJ12 is less popular today than RJ11 because we can see RJ11 in homes connecting telephone lines and modems, whereas large companies only use RJ12 to connect telephones to the centralized telephone network.
