The Function Of The Patch Bay

The Function of the Patch Bay

The equipment needed to implement patch cords is called Patch Panel or Patch Bay. The patch panel looks like a rack-mounted device that is full of jacks, and generally has two rows of jacks on the front. The patch panel is set up between each audio device and the mixer, and it acts as a hub, which concentrates the input and output of all audio devices on the patch panel, which facilitates flexible connections between devices.

The audio system TT cable has the following functions:

(1) The equipment outside the system can be easily connected to the audio system.

(2) When the equipment in the system fails, the tt cable is used for backup. Ensure system operation.

(3) Detect fault points in the system.

Usually the patch panel has several patch modes to choose from. The typical setting is generally: the upper row of ports on the panel is used for signal output; the lower row of ports on the panel is used for signal input. Quick reorganization of equipment in the studio is easily accomplished by connecting the equipment on the input side to the equipment on the output side using a short length of cable.

There are single-core and double-core connection cables used in patch bay. TT cable for stereo equipment should use a two-conductor cable, otherwise the stereo signal will not be transmitted. The end of the connecting line is generally equipped with a marking ring. By reading the letters or numbers on the marking ring, you can know whether the cable is a left channel signal or a right channel signal, thus avoiding wrong connections. Of course, you can also use a single-core connection cable to achieve stereo serial connection, but you need to use two wires. When connecting, follow the right channel priority principle, first use a cable to connect the right channel port on the upper row of the tt cable to the right channel port on the lower row, and then connect the left channel in the same way , so as to ensure that there will be no problem of reciprocal left and right channels.

Normally (NORMAL) the upper and lower rows of jacks are connected. When the tt plug is inserted into the lower jack, the signal sent from the upper jack is disconnected, and the signal is sent from the lower plug. signal of. To this end, the sockets of the patch bay use resettable plug points.

Another device similar to a patch panel is the Audio Routing Switcher. This is a relatively advanced routing device, which can realize the interconnection of input and output. Different from the traditional patch panel, the routing switcher realizes routing switching electronically, instead of manually connecting several ports with a connecting wire like a patch panel.
